Killara Station now accessible to all

A multi-million-dollar upgrade to improve accessibility at Killara Station is officially complete, ensuring a smoother, more accessible trip from street to platform.

The project was carried out under the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, providing better access to public transport for passengers with a disability, limited mobility, and passengers with luggage or prams.

The improvements to Killara Station include three new lifts, accessible toilets, new handrails on stairs, formalised accessible parking and kiss and ride facilities.

The work also includes footpath upgrades on Werona Avenue and Culworth Avenue, and two new deflection walls for the safety of passengers and protection of infrastructure.

Transport for NSW consulted with the public and the Ku-ring-gai Council to develop and implement a design for this historic station that best served the local community.

This process included consultation with heritage architects in order to preserve the unique value of the station building and its gardens.

Minor works are expected to continue at Killara Station until 2024.

Transport Minister Jo Haylen said:

“Through the hard work of 2000 workers involved in this project, the Killara community now have access to better station facilities, including three new lifts and new accessible amenities.

“Creating an accessible Transport Network is a big priority for our Government.

“That’s why our Government has expanded the existing Transport Access and Commuter Carpark program, with an additional $300 million investment from the most recent State Budget.

“This means more stations across our network will be able to benefit from important upgrades just like this one.”
