Kings of Leon putting Mildura on map – Mayor Wood

This is exciting and welcome news for our whole community and we can’t wait to see the Mildura Sporting Precinct host such a high profile, international, Grammy Award-winning act like Kings of Leon in our region.

To have an act described as ‘one of the biggest rock bands on the planet’ performing in our city is truly amazing and would be the biggest act I can remember ever playing in our region, so this is really something special.

They’ve won four Grammys and sold well over 21 million albums among a whole host of global critical acclaim, and we are going to see them play live in our town. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

This wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of the Victorian Government, which has made this happen. It’s great to see the continuing support of the Victorian Government in our region following its $10 million investment in the second stage of the precinct.

This also wouldn’t be possible if we didn’t have a venue like the Mildura Sporting Precinct to host such a massive, high-profile event.

Along with a new home for numerous local sporting groups, hosting these types of major events is what was envisaged when the Mildura Sporting Precinct was conceived.

It’s great to see the precinct delivering on these objectives less than 12 months since the first stage opened late last year.

Hosting an internationally-acclaimed act the calibre of Kings of Leon, and the sheer scale of the production we can look forward to, reinforces our region’s status as a major events destination.

It also very much puts our region on the map as a destination with a venue that can continue to draw massive events, and adds another dynamic to the multi-purpose role the Mildura Sporting Precinct will play in our community.

Mildura Is On Fire.
