Kororoit Creek Trail vandalism

Geoffrey Ricardo public art

Statement from the Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Colleen Gates:

“This act of vandalism and damage to our natural surrounds of the Kororoit Creek is very disappointing to say the least, especially considering its intentional and calculated nature.

“Clearly these vandals have no understanding or regard for the significance of the artwork. These attacks are completely disrespectful to the artist and caretakers of the creek, are a drain on the public purse, and let down the entire community.

“The eight Spirits of Time and Place public art sculptures by Geoffrey Ricardo, installed as part of a partnership between Council and Toyota, have been a prominent part of the Kororoit Creek Trail landscape since its opening in July 2017. They explore the symbols and metaphors of the area and add a welcoming and intriguing element to the creek environment.

“If anyone saw or heard anything that might help police with their investigations, even if it may seem minor, please call Altona North Police Station on 9392 3111.”
