Kunwarara brigade zooms ahead

Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services The Honourable Mark Ryan

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan MP officially handed over a new firefighting appliance to the Kunwarara Rural Fire Brigade (RFB) today.

Minister Ryan said the Light Attack appliance, worth almost $123,000, would provide a welcome boost to firefighting capability and response in the area.

“The Rural Fire Brigade Association Queensland (RFBAQ) donated the Toyota Landcruiser, which is the first truck to be owned by the brigade.

“The Livingstone Shire Council also donated $15,000 to the RFBAQ specifically for this vehicle.

“The truck was built in Queensland by Quik Corp and funded by the RFBAQ through generous community donations after the intense 2018-19 bushfire season,” Mr Ryan said.

“This vehicle ensures the 13 members of this brigade have the resources they need to perform their lifesaving work.”

“Thank you to all who made this truck possible – you have made a big difference to a small community.”

Rural Fire Service Assistant Commissioner John Bolger said RFBs were crucial to Queensland communities.

“Residents rely on brigades to respond to bushfires, conduct bushfire mitigation activities and help them better prepare their families and properties for bushfire season,” Mr Bolger said.

“This new truck will be a significant asset to Kunwarara brigade members who are now better equipped to face the challenges of the bushfire season and provide essential services to the community.

“By working together with the RFBAQ, we ensure our volunteers have the right equipment they need to build community resilience and capability before, during and after fires and other emergencies.”
