The newly built Kurmboon Child and Family Centre located in Pink Hill Boulevard, Officer is now officially open.
Since the start of Term 3, this brand-new facility has been delivering high quality kindergarten services to 3-and-4-year-old children.
Located in the Timbertop Estate, the facility will provide the local community with early childhood and family services.
The centre features:
two kindergarten program rooms
one community room
three consulting rooms
outdoor play area
staff room and amenities
a public art piece.
The facility’s indigenous name ‘Kurmboon’ means ‘tree blossom’. The name was chosen following consultation with the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation, historical and community groups and the local community.
The centre’s public art piece in the outdoor play area features a butterfly perched on a flower. Made of steel and optical filters, the sun’s rays interact with the flower petals to create constantly changing vivid colours.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Tammy Radford officially opened the facility on site this week.
“I’m thrilled to see the completion of the facility and the public art piece. It is wonderful to see some of our new centres being given Indigenous names, to pay respect to our First Nations people”.
“Kurmboon Child and Family Centre offers state-of-the-art spaces for the local community to access the early years and family services they need”, Mayor Radford said.
This project was funded by the Victorian Government’s Children’s Facilities Capital Program Major Grants ($1.6m) and council ($3.7m) via developer contributions.
