Labor continues to deceive Tasmanians

Nic Street, Minister for Sport and Recreation

Rebecca White continues to mislead Tasmanians with claims she supports a Tassie AFL team but not a stadium.

Ms White knows that without a stadium there is no Tasmanian AFL team. She pretends she is supportive of a team, but her assertion that we can have a team without a stadium is an outright deception.

Minister for Sport and Recreation, Nic Street, said the AFL has made it clear there is no team without a stadium and there is no room to renegotiate the deal.

“Tasmanians and the AFL recognise the economic benefit the Mac Point Urban Renewal project will bring to the State. It seems the only ones who do not comprehend this are Labor,” Minister Street said.

“No stadium, no team – and this won’t change no matter how many times Ms White tries to tell Tasmanians it will.

“It’s good enough for the Prime Minister, all the AFL clubs, and our new club Chairman Grant O’Brien.

“You’ve really got to ask why it’s not good enough for Tasmanian Labor? Apart from cheap politics.”

Minister Street said the Tasmanian Liberal Government are builders, not blockers.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government is sticking to the long-term plan of delivering the dream,” Minister Street said.

“We have already promised to provide an opportunity for all Members of Parliament to participate in the planning process by having the stadium declared a Project of State Significance.

“Ms White can circle around the issue all she likes, but if she blocks this process she will stop the stadium and therefore stop the team and kill the dream.”
