Labor leader faces very serious questions

Guy Barnett,Liberal Member for Lyons

Today marks five years since Rebecca White first took the Labor leadership, leaving nothing but a legacy of dysfunction, chaos and rumourmongering.

Having been recycled as leader after two election losses, and legal action still being threatened from the exonerated former Labor President, Ben McGregor, Rebecca White faces some very serious questions regarding her leadership.

Did she deliberately use Ben McGregor for her own political gain?

Did she do her own due diligence on the rumours before condemning Mr McGregor as not fit to stand for Parliament?

Why is Ms White deliberately avoiding questions on these matters?

While Ms White was forced out as Labor leader following the election loss, the Ben McGregor saga and the resignation of Bastian Seidel – who openly cited Labor’s toxic environment as the reason for his departure – it is clear that things for Labor have gone from bad to worse.

As Ben McGregor stated yesterday when questioned how much responsibility Rebecca White as Leader of the party should take, he said:

“The consequence on them should be, you know, seriously considering whether they’re appropriate for Parliament.”*

Ms White has true form on using reckless gossip as a political weaponry, time and time again, with scant regard for those she burns.

Ms White must come forward and address these matters once and for all.

Five years on and things have never been frostier in the Labor party. Is Winter coming?
