Labor must release secret WorkCover reform modelling

Liberal Party Victoria

The Allan Government must release the modelling it used to overhaul WorkCover so Victorians can judge for themselves if Labor’s claims stack up.

As part of its WorkCover reforms, Labor is seeking to amend the definition of mental injury as well as workplace injury thresholds, claiming this will reduce WorkCover claims without disadvantaging workers in need of support.

Yet appearing before the Legislative Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Department of Treasury and Finance officials confirmed details of the modelling undertaken would not be released.

Shadow Minister for WorkCover and the TAC, Cindy McLeish, said: “Labor broke WorkCover and now won’t even release the modelling it is using to claim their reforms will fix it.

“Labor’s economic performance has already been shown to be appalling with financial mismanagement and record debt. They must release the modelling so all Victorians can judge whether the claims about their reforms are supported by evidence.

“If the Allan Government keeps the modelling secret, Victorians will know Labor isn’t serious about fixing WorkCover and is instead simply looking to save money at the cost of Victorian workers’ health and wellbeing.”
