  • Stronger border control measures welcome
  • Decisive action will save lives
  • Tasmania deserves leadership and collaboration
  • On behalf of all Tasmanians, Labor thanks the Government for taking decisive action to limit the threat of COVID-19 by mandating that all arrivals to Tasmania need to be quarantined for 14 days.

Ms White said the decision made by the Government today will save lives.

“We know these decisions are hard and they will have lasting impacts, but Labor backs the Government to take every possible step to keep our community safe,” Ms White said.

“Politics has no colour right now – Liberal, Green, Labor or independent – there is no greater challenge than protecting the most vulnerable people in our community from this insidious disease and supporting businesses so that they survive this crisis.

Ms White said while she congratulates the Government for introducing stronger border control measures, there is still much more to be done.

“It is time for more dramatic social distancing measures for all Tasmanians, particularly those at greatest risk of getting sick.

“The lesson from overseas is that the biggest threat to our economy is failing to do everything we possibly can to stop the spread of the virus.

“Labor will support any action taken by this Government to protect public health. This is an unprecedented situation and the community deserves leadership and collaboration.”
