Landy Field Pavilion In Geelong Hits High Point

VIC Premier

Labor is helping more people get active with the John Landy Athletics Field project on track for completion.

Minister Settle today joined Member for Geelong Christine Couzens to celebrate the topping out of the two-storey pavilion.

Labor has invested $5 million towards the project, along with $5 million from the City of Greater Geelong.

John Landy Athletics Field is home to more than 1,000 regional athletes from schools and the wider community.

This will replace a nearly 50-year-old facility, the pavilion will feature change rooms, a new office, a canteen and kiosk, and multi-purpose rooms for athletes, students and community groups to use.

Even our tiniest athletes will benefit from the upgrades with a new home base for Geelong Little Athletics.

Geelong Athletics and Barwon Sports Academy will also enjoy improved facilities that support our athletes.

The pavilion will position Geelong as one of Australia’s major regional athletics hubs, adding to its

reputation as a drawcard for sport and tourism, and strengthening the regional economy.

It will benefit schools, events, workshops, training days, clinics and sport related medical services.

Local businesses, including head contractor Plan Group, are benefiting from the project, supporting up to 185 construction jobs and is on track for completion later this year.

The pavilion builds on City of Greater Geelong’s $1.5 million investment to resurface the athletics track, bringing it up to speed with World Athletics Class 2 accreditation to make it a world-class athletics destination.

It also builds on the Government’s investment in Geelong’s sporting facilities, alongside projects at Tarratarra Stadium, Waurn Ponds Sports Complex and Stead Park.

More than $50 billion has been delivered through the Allan Labor Government over the past decade to make our regions even better places to live, work, visit and study.

Labor is delivering the infrastructure Victoria needs, while Jess Wilson’s Liberals are planning $40 billion in cuts.

As stated by Minister for Regional Development Michaela Settle

“We’re turning Landy Fields into a major regional athletics hub, which will bring more sporting events to town.”

“Only Labor will build infrastructure that will create new opportunities for young regional Victorians and will last the community for years to come.”

As stated by Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence

“Investing in community sport facilities leads to better outcomes and we’re making that possible for athletes in Geelong.”

“Labor is giving more people in Geelong the opportunity to get active, participate and connect through sport.”

As stated by Member for Geelong Christine Couzens

“This investment is a major boost for our community, delivering a modern facility that will support athletes, schools and locals for years to come.”

“John Landy Athletics Field is an important part of Geelong, and these upgrades will help more locals get involved, stay active and enjoy sport.”

As stated by City of Greater Geelong Deputy Mayor Eddy Kontelj

“Topping out the new John Landy Athletics Field pavilion is another important milestone as we sprint towards the finish line, delivering a modern, welcoming facility that will support athletes of all ages and abilities for decades to come.”

“From Little Athletics to elite competitors, schools and community groups, this pavilion will give everyone the opportunity to put their best foot forward.”
