Latrobe City Council welcomes release of SEC Strategic Plan

Latrobe City Council welcomes the Victorian Government’s commitment to re-establish the State Electricity Commission (SEC) in Morwell, with a strategic focus on investment, transition and workforce development.

Today’s launch of the SEC’s Strategic Plan 2023-2025 signifies a significant milestone in securing a sustainable and prosperous future for our region.

This commitment by the Victorian Government, originally made as part of an election promise, holds the promise of generating long-term employment opportunities for Latrobe City and stands as a pillar of support for our community as we navigate through substantial periods of change, both now and into the future.

Our community boasts a rich history of powering the state, and with this commitment, we eagerly anticipate our continued leadership in sustaining Victoria’s energy needs in a sustainably conscious manner.

The initial investment of $1 billion dedicated to delivering 4.5 gigawatts of power through renewable energy and storage projects, aligns with Council’s aspirations to harness opportunities in renewable energy and attract cutting-edge industry to our region and is a significant step towards realising a sustainable future for Latrobe City.

Council continues to strongly advocate for the Victorian Government to prioritise the establishment of the SEC Head Office in Morwell. The establishment of the SEC and associated renewable energy projects will provide new jobs and industries, playing a critical role in facilitating our region’s transformation.
