Learner driver charged after Albert Park crash

A Learner driver has been charged after allegedly crashing a stolen car into a tree in Albert Park on 2 January.

Investigators from Moorabbin Investigation Crime Unit will allege a stolen Holden Astra, driving along Lakeside Drive, struck a tree before bursting into flames on Lakeside Drive just after 9am.

The female driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Her two passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man, were hospitalised with life-threatening injuries.

The Astra is alleged to have been stolen along with a white Holden Captiva from the driveway of a Charman Road, Mentone residence earlier that morning.

A 19-year-old Hastings woman has been charged with two counts of theft of motor vehicle, theft, reckless conduct endanger serious injury, drive in a manner dangerous, drive in a speed dangerous and other traffic offences.

She was remanded to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court today.

The other vehicle occupants are yet to be spoken to by police.
