A learner driver will appear in court next month to face numerous traffic offences detected by Highway Patrol officers in Sydney’s south west overnight.
Just before 1am (Sunday 22 March 2020), police were conducting speed enforcement duties on the M5 Motorway at Revesby, when they detected a Ford XR5 travelling in excess of the signposted 100km/h limit.
Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command checked the vehicle’s speed using lidar – allegedly giving a reading of 190km/h.
The vehicle was subsequently stopped on the Heathcote Road off-ramp at Milperra, and officers spoke with the 16-year-old male driver, who produced a learner’s license.
Officers also observed two further young people inside the vehicle, neither of whom were licensed.
The driver was charged by way of a Court Attendance Notice for the offences of drive at speed dangerous, class A motor vehicle exceed speed limit over 45kph, unaccompanied learner, and not display L plates.
He is due to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday 16 April 2020.
The boy’s licence was immediately suspended and confiscated.
