Leewood level crossing to close for re-surfacing

Drivers are being encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid the Ash Street level crossing into the Leewood Industrial estate next week when work begins to upgrade the road surface. The work will begin on Monday 24 February.

The first stage of the project will see the road resurfaced from the level crossing to Scott Place. The road will remain open under traffic control during Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The second stage of the project will see the level crossing on Ash Street closed to all traffic on the following weekend from 9am Friday 28 February through to the evening of Sunday 1 March, to allow for hot mix asphalt to be added next to the tracks on the level crossing.

Rail operator John Holland has also decided to remove an existing rail siding to the south of the level crossing over the same weekend.

Drivers are being asked to use detours over the Franklin Road rail bridge.

Emergency services, nearby residents and business owners have been sent letters with the details of the closures. A number of electronic message boards are also in place on approach roads to the crossing.
