Despite limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, RAAF Base Edinburgh was still able to raise much-needed funds for Legacy this year.
Units rallied together to host stalls at RAAF Base Edinburgh and DSTG Edinburgh for Legacy Week, which was launched on August 29.
Aircraftwoman Rebecca Hughes, one of many aviators who staffed a stall hosted by Headquarters Cyber and Electronic Warfare at DSTG Edinburgh, said she was inspired to see the level of support for such a worthy cause.
“I joined Defence in 2020, and this was the first time I’ve been able to support Legacy Week while serving,” Aircraftwoman Hughes said.
“It was really special being involved this year. The stall sold out in the first two hours of opening, with the RAAF bears being a crowd favourite.”
DSTG Edinburgh staff helped raise more than $1000.
Sergeant Sami Syron, a Legacy Legatee, encouraged volunteering for all who were interested in giving back to the Defence community.
“I started volunteering with the Legacy Club of South Australia and Broken Hill nearly three years ago, as my family have a long serving history with Defence,” Sergeant Syron said.
“I saw this opportunity as a very worthwhile cause to use my family and Air Force experience to be able to provide support to the spouses and children of veterans who have passed away.”
Legacy supports the families of serving and former serving personnel who have died or been injured.
The not-for-profit organisation is supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and volunteers drawn from all walks of life.
By the end of Legacy Week on September 4, RAAF Base Edinburgh personnel raised more than $5000.
