The 11th Brigade held a ceremony on December 8 to mark the official handover of command from the outgoing Brigade Commander, Brigadier Mark Armstrong, to Brigadier Richard Peace.
Military personnel, family and guests, including Commander 2nd (Australian) Division, Major General David Thomae, and past brigade commanders, attended the ceremony.
Brigadier Armstrong steered the 11th Brigade through challenging times during COVID-19 and flood events, demonstrating leadership and commitment to the safety and security of the community and the nation. During his tenure, the brigade continued its long history of professionalism and dedication.
Major General Thomae commended Brigadier Armstrong’s leadership, highlighting his commitment and ability to inspire and motivate his team.
“Brigadier Armstrong’s tenure as the 11th Brigade Commander has been nothing short of exceptional,” he said.
“His strategic vision, dedication to the mission and genuine concern for the wellbeing of his troops have left an indelible mark on the brigade and our community, especially during a period of continuous requests for assistance.”
Brigadier Armstrong expressed gratitude to the brigade’s personnel, acknowledging their hard work, commitment and collective achievements.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the 11th Brigade,” he said.
“Together, we have faced challenges and forged bonds. I am confident that under the capable leadership and wealth of experience Brigadier Richard Peace brings, 11th Brigade will continue to thrive.”
Brigadier Peace expressed his commitment to building upon the legacy left by his predecessors.
“I am honoured to assume command today of the 11th Brigade from Brigadier Armstrong,” he said.
“His leadership has set a high standard, and I am eager to work with my team and continue to uphold the values and traditions of 11 Brigade.”
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic passing of the brigade’s command flag from Brigadier Armstrong and RSM Warrant Officer Class One Peter Crooke to Brigadier Peace and incoming RSM Warrant Officer Class One Scott Elvery.
