Liberals and Nationals to deliver world-class stadium for Moonee Valley

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit $17.5 million towards a new indoor sports stadium in Moonee Valley.

The investment will support Moonee Valley Council to construct the stadium, offering six new competition compliant indoor courts for use across netball, basketball, futsal and other indoor sports.

The new Quinn Grove facility will meet growing demand and deliver a modern and inclusive sporting facility for the community.

In the Moonee Valley municipality, over 8,000 people play, coach, umpire and manage across basketball, netball, and futsal. Participation is expected to increase to over 12,000 by 2040.

Moonee Valley is the only municipality in greater Melbourne without a competition compliant highball facility, despite having the highest number of basketball participants per local residents in Victoria.

Shadow Minister for Sport, Cindy McLeish, said the new stadium and facilities will give adults and children in Moonee Valley easily accessible facilities to play and train at. It will give back valuable time to families who have had to travel a minimum of 40 minutes to use other stadiums outside of the area.

“The upgraded facilities will deliver new opportunities for adults and children alike, while encouraging new participation.”

“This project is well overdue and the residents in Moonee Valley are the ones set to gain. Only a Liberals and Nationals Government will get on and get it done.”

Liberal Candidate for Niddrie, Alan Youhana, said there was a distinct lack of both basketball facilities and indoor netball facilities across the whole region.

“Alongside the council, our commitment will deliver competition ready facilities for keen basketball and netball players to further develop their skills and keep them in the game.”

“Our team is committed to investing in grassroots sport across western Melbourne and only the Liberals and Nationals will deliver this world-class stadium for Moonee Valley.”
