Liberals fail to tackle homelessness crisis

Tasmanian Labor
  • Liberals fail announce real measures to tackle homelessness
  • Minister Jaensch has no plan to address the homelessness crisis
  • State and Federal Liberals have failed to address Tasmania’s significant homelessness crisis, as National Homelessness Week begins.

Shadow Minister for Housing Alison Standen said it was very disappointing that the Federal Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services, Luke Howarth had come to Tasmania empty handed.

“Tasmanians are used to being failed by Liberals on housing and homelessness, so we’re not surprised Mr Howarth has popped into town with no funding, no ideas and no solutions” Ms Standen said.

“The Hodgman Liberal Government has a terrible track record when it comes to housing and homelessness.

“Under Mr Hodgman’s watch, homeless numbers are increasing quickly while the public housing waiting list has exploded to more than 3,300 people.

“As Tasmania’s homeless numbers increase, it seems that the Federal and State Liberals agree that the best response is to do nothing.”
