NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Executive Director Robert Quirk said community and stakeholders are invited to have their say by making an online submission about the proposed walking track upgrades outlined in the draft amendment to the Ben Boyd National Park and Bell Bird Creek Nature Reserve Plan of Management, and the draft Light to Light Walk Strategy.

NPWS will host a series of community information days on 31 July, 1 August and 2 August; time and location details can be found by following the links at Draft Light to Light Walk Strategy: Public Consultation.

“The project has been awarded $7.9 million funding by the Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund program, an initiative of the NSW Government that supports regional economic growth, creates local employment opportunities and bringing more visitors to the area,” Mr Quirk said.

“The draft documents propose an improved multi-day walking experience that will better manage environmental impacts, protect Aboriginal cultural heritage values and improve the track’s nature-based walking experience on this remote but spectacular wilderness coastal walk.

“The Draft Plan of Management amendment and the draft Strategy are on public exhibition from 12 July to 26 August 2019 and we value community feedback,” said Mr Quirk.

In preparing the draft Strategy, NPWS is currently undertaking both environmental and cultural heritage assessments involving local Aboriginal groups to ensure the protection of the important values of the park.

Mr Quirk said NPWS will carefully consider community feedback and the outcomes of environmental and cultural assessments in progressing any amendments to the Plan of Management and the Light to Light Walk Strategy.
