Liquor seized – Galiwinku

Northern Territory Police have seized a quantity of alcohol in Galiwinku.

Around 5:00pm on Monday 3 August 2020, police officers in Galiwinku conducted a search on a charter flight that had arrived from Darwin. The search located 11 bottles of spirits and a two litre box of wine in passenger luggage.

Senior Sergeant Michael Milde said, “This liquor had the potential to cause serious alcohol fuelled violence within the Galiwinku community, not to mention the damage to health and wellbeing of community members. It was revealed that the alcohol would be sold for $500 a bottle which also causes financial hardship to many families. Some excellent work by the local members to prevent it entering the community”.

Investigations are ongoing.
