The following can be attributed to the Deputy Mayor of Liverpool Council, Peter Hale.
Liverpool City Council is processing an unprecedented number of Code of Conduct complaints.
These are being handled in accordance with the Office of Local Government prescribed procedures.
On more than one occasion, Council has asked the OLG to intervene to reduce the impact on Council’s operations.
The OLG has not responded to the Council’s requests.
Liverpool City Council’s first priority – as always – is the provision of services to its residents and ratepayers.
The number of Code of Conduct complaints is not a measure of council’s overall functionality and its day-to-day management of its operations.
It has returned two balanced budgets; and, across council operations, it is business as usual. Roads are being repaired, rates are being levied and rubbish is being collected, our massively successful festivals are still attracting millions of dollars to the local economy and parks and infrastructure are being rolled out across our growth areas.
