LIVING CITY Waterfront Precinct Celebrated at Official Opening

Devonport City Council Tasmania

The Devonport community will celebrate the opening of the LIVING CITY Waterfront Precinct this Saturday, ahead of the much-anticipated Symphony on the Waterfront concert.

Devonport Mayor Cr Alison Jarman will host the event following the official opening by Labor Senator Anne Urquhart.

Cr Jarman said the Waterfront Precinct, which includes a $17 million parkland redevelopment and a privately funded $40 million hotel, is already proving to be a popular meeting place for the community.

The Waterfront precinct, funded by a $10 million Australian Government grant and $7 million from Council’s cash reserve, achieves the long-held community desire to connect the Devonport CBD to the Mersey River.

“The precinct is more than just a redevelopment. It’s a vision for the future of Devonport, an investment in tourism and a driver for economic growth” Cr Jarman said.

“The public is embracing the LIVING CITY Master Plan, praising the parklands area as a new, positive space to enjoy food, culture and the arts.”

The LIVING CITY Waterfront Park, the venue for this weekend’s celebrations, consists of a children’s play space with adjacent BBQ shelter and public amenities, native Tasmanian plantings, amphitheatre, water and mist feature, events common, pathways, lighting, an elevated walkway, and rotunda.

The opening is an opportunity for the community to experience the beauty and versatility of the parkland space, particularly its capacity to hold large outdoor events.

The official Waterfront Precinct opening is scheduled for 5.45pm on Saturday 11 February at the parklands site, preceding the Symphony on the Waterfront concert that evening. The orchestral concert is a collaboration between the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, the Novotel Devonport, and the Devonport City Council. Ticket

allocation for the concert is exhausted, with 5000 patrons set to attend. Food vendors will be operating in Market Square from 3pm.
