MEDIA RELEASE Wednesday 17 August 2022

RISE AND SHINE: Local Australia Day Awards nominations open on the Northern Beaches.

Now is the time to shine a spotlight on a person or event that makes the Northern Beaches a better place.

Opening on Thursday 18 August, Northern Beaches residents can nominate eligible recipients for the 2023 Australia Day Awards.

Each year Council recognises the outstanding contributions from local residents and events in six categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year (under 25 years)
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years or older)
  • Sportsperson of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Outstanding Community Service

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said: “In the last few years – throughout Covid lock downs and the effects of flood and storm events, the spirit of helping your neighbours in times of need has been alive and well in the Northern Beaches community. Everywhere I go and whenever I am out and about, I always hear anecdotes about the community spirit. So right now, we want to hear from the community about the many unsung local heroes who deserve recognition. We want the chance to celebrate the people and programs that make a true difference, at a grass roots level.”

Now is the opportunity to recognise, nominate and show our appreciation to those who inspire and make a difference to our local community.

The nomination form and the guidelines and criteria are available on Council’s website. Applications close at midnight on Monday 31 October 2022.

The awards will be presented in a ceremony to be held on 25 January 2023.
