Works to improve safety on two key stretches of road near Crescent Head and Dondingalong have recently been completed.
Kempsey Shire Council’s works team have carried out major safety improvements along sections of Crescent Head Road and Gowings Hill Road over the last four months.
The projects were delivered through grants of $1,491,950 received by Council under the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program.
The works included widening, realignment, elevating corners and resealing on Crescent Head Road between Berrys Lane and Beranghi Road. Line marking will be completed in the next fortnight with a final seal to be carried out in the New Year.
At the same time a section of Gowings Hill Road between Dungay Creek and Circuit Lane was widened, realigned, had new drainage installed and was resealed.
Council’s Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the funding ensured Council could continue making our roads safer.
“This is a great result for the community as these are busy stretches of road and unfortunately have a history of safety issues so Council put them forward for this government funding,” he said.
“Council identified both of these roads as priorities. It’s a great result to have these safety upgrades completed.”
The Black Spot program is an Australian Government initiative to build safer roads and a stronger economy.
Council thanked the community for their patience with any interruption to traffic over the period of the works.
