Today Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne along with localsporting club officials opened the first stage of the upgraded Tempe Reservesporting grounds.
The first stage of the upgrade includes:
- a new synthetic multi-purpose sports field
- five turf fields with new irrigation
- stormwater drainage and harvesting
- flood lighting upgrade
- four new cricket nets and two upgraded wickets
- new pathways and tree planting
Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne said, “This upgradewill be of massive benefit to local sports clubs as it will result in theincreased use of Tempe Reserve by multiple sport including football, cricket, rugby league and ultimate frisbee. Local clubs Marrickville Red Devils andMarrickville Cricket have new home grounds for their girls and women’s team.
“This the first step in a bigger and better sportinginfrastructure at Tempe. We have an opportunity to create a regional sportingprecinct that will benefit the whole of the Inner West,”

Future plans for Tempe Reserve include a new $2.5 millionTempe Reserve amenities building, a $2 million sport lighting upgrade, newtennis and futsal courts and a upgrade of the indoor Robyn Webster SportsCentre.
Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon said, “Theredevelopment of this facility has been made possible by the collaborationbetween club, council, NSW Government and Cricket NSW and means the people ofthe Inner West have another opportunity to play and love cricket in theirarea,”
