Long overdue upgrades for Clayton South Primary School

Liberal Party Victoria

A Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will invest $1.5 million in Clayton South Primary School, to deliver long overdue upgrades that its students and the local community deserve.

Built in the 1950s, Clayton South Primary School has seen little investment over the years.

Despite having the largest catchment in the area, the school cohort of only 118 students falls short of its current capacity of 350 students, with parents opting to not transition their children from the neighbouring kindergarten, instead sending them to further afield.

The school’s new principal is doing an impressive job, having developed a new music program using second hand instruments, established a new ‘science of reading’ learning program and is often seen painting the building’s exterior by himself.

The $1.5 million upgrade commitment will see the replacement of the building’s external asbestos-ridden cladding, exterior painting, a new science room, the upgrading of two classrooms, office upgrades, a new staff room, external landscaping and a new information screen.

Leader of the Opposition, Matt Guy, wants to see Clayton South Primary School shine for the community.

“Years of neglect and underinvestment from the State Government in a so called “safe-seat” means this school has been left to fend for itself, making do with substandard facilities for too long.”

“A school isn’t just the walls and windows – it’s the students, teachers and community. Today’s announcement means parents will want to send their kids here and build the school into the best it can be for years to come.”

Liberal Candidate for Clarinda, Anthony Richardson, sees the benefits the upgrade will bring to the local community.

“Parents often send their children elsewhere because the school doesn’t have the appropriate facilities they need.”

“Our children deserve the very best facilities, which just hasn’t happened under this Government’s watch. Only the Liberals and Nationals have a real solution for Clayton South Primary School.”
