The M80 Ring Road will close Altona-bound between Edgars Road and Sydney Road this weekend as crews complete asphalting and line marking works as part of the M80 Upgrade.
The freeway will close Altona-bound from 9pm, Friday 18 February until 5am, Monday 21 February.
Signed detours will be in place via Cooper Street, the Hume Highway, Mahoneys Road, Sydney Road and Edgars Road.
Drivers are encouraged to plan alternative routes and avoid the area if possible, with major delays expected.
The VicRoads signals team will monitor conditions and will adjust traffic lights as needed to minimise congestion on surrounding roads.
The M80 Upgrade will slash travel times and provide safer and more reliable journeys for over 165,000 drivers who use it each day.
The project is adding additional lanes, widening the entry and exit ramps between Sydney and Edgars roads and installing a smart freeway management system to improve traffic flow.
