The result continues Macquarie’s impressive rise, with the University now ranked 149 places higher than a decade ago. The latest edition of the rankings assessed 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories.
This year’s rankings follow Macquarie’s record result last year, when it reached 166th globally and achieved its highest-ever position among Australian universities.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings assess research-intensive universities across their core missions, including teaching, research, research environment, industry engagement and international outlook.
Macquarie Vice-Chancellor Professor S Bruce Dowton said the latest result reflected the University’s continued progress and the strength of its research, education, healthcare and partnerships.
“Macquarie’s continued rise in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings is recognition of the quality and impact of our university and the commitment of our people,” Professor Dowton said.
“To have climbed almost 150 places globally in a decade is a significant achievement. It reflects the sustained work of our researchers, educators, professional staff, students and partners to deliver impact locally, nationally and around the world.
“Our focus is not rankings for their own sake, but on building a university that makes a meaningful contribution through excellent research and education, strong industry and community partnerships, and the success of our graduates.
“I want to thank and congratulate the many talented people at Macquarie University who have made this incredible and well-deserved recognition possible.”
The 2027 rankings are the most inclusive edition of THE’s global rankings to date, with a record number of universities assessed.
