Major infrastructure funding on way for Snowy Monaro

In the quarterly budget review statement tabled at the November Ordinary Meeting of Snowy Monaro Regional Council, Councillors approved substantial funding for a wide range of important infrastructure upgrades and maintenance projects across the region.

$916,800 has been committed for the eagerly awaited bridge over the Michelago Causeway, a major construction project for the northern part of region connecting the two sides of the village and creating a local traffic alternative to the Monaro Highway.

A maximum of $2,100,000 from phase 3 of the Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program has been allocated for the repairs and upgrades needed to ensure Jindabyne Pool is safe and structurally sound well into the future. Council has also submitted a $1,000,000 grant application for this project, which if successful, will reduce the need for the full $2,100,000 allocation enabling this to be redirected to rural road re-sheeting.

From phases 2 and 3 of the Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, a minimum of $3,080,000 will be put towards the rural roads budget, specifically for rural road maintenance and gravel re-sheeting. As stated above, any money saved from the allotted budget for Jindabyne Pool will be brought into the available funding for rural road maintenance and gravel re-sheeting as additional funds.

Council’s Quarterly Budget Review Statement also includes new funding commitments for maintenance and upgrade works at Cooma Showground, Cooma North Ridge, Jindabyne Holiday Park and Cooma Youth Centre and reconfirms the available funding for the eagerly awaited extension of Yallambee Lodge in Cooma.
