Netflix Originals television series Clickbait is set to film in Victoria thanks to funding through the Location Incentive program.
The Australian Government will provide $4.9 million for Clickbait and the Victorian Government will also support the production through its Production Incentive Attraction Fund.
Clickbait is an 8-episode character-based thriller which explores the ways in which our most dangerous and uncontrolled impulses are fuelled in the age of social media. The mini-series will begin the seven months of production later this year at Docklands Studios Melbourne and various locations around the city.
Co-created by Tony Ayres (The Slap, Nowhere Boys, Glitch) and Christian White (The Nowhere Child, Relic), the series will be produced by Melbourne-based Matchbox Pictures and Tony Ayres Productions together with UK production company Heyday Television for Netflix and NBCUniversal.
Clickbait is the latest project to receive funding through the Location Incentive program. Earlier this year, the 10-part adaption of best-selling novel Shantaram and feature film Thor: Love and Thunder were also supported through the program.
The Government’s Location Incentive is designed to work alongside the Location Offset to provide a 30 per cent rebate for eligible large budget international productions, helping to attract to foreign investment to Australian shores.
