Major redevelopment of Lesmurdie Primary School delivered

  • $20.1 million upgrade to Lesmurdie Primary School officially opened
  • New facilities include general learning classrooms, covered assembly area and hardcourts
  • Redevelopment part of WA Labor Government’s record $4.4 billion investment in school infrastructure

The Cook Labor Government has delivered another significant school upgrade, with a major redevelopment of Lesmurdie Primary School now completed.

Premier Roger Cook today officially opened the $20.1 million redevelopment, which includes a new administration building and staff room, new general classroom blocks, an early childhood education centre and a covered assembly area with music room, as well as a $70,000 primary science upgrade at the school.

Students and staff will also benefit from new sports hardcourts, a dental therapy centre, additional car parking and landscaping. Refurbishments to other parts of the school were also carried out along with an existing classroom being converted into a primary science laboratory.

Lesmurdie Primary School was established in 1920 and is located in the Darling Ranges on the outskirts of Perth. The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

The major redevelopment continues the Cook Labor Government’s significant investment in education in the area, with a $2 million STEM project currently under construction at Lesmurdie Senior High School expected to be completed early in 2025, a $38 million upgrade under way at Kalamunda Senior High School and a new $1.7 million STEM lab recently completed at the school.

These projects are part of a record $4.4 billion investment by the WA Labor Government in upgrading education facilities right across the State. Since 2017, 31 new primary schools and five new high schools have been opened.

As stated by Premier Roger Cook:

“My Government is committed to delivering quality learning facilities for Western Australian students.

“Lesmurdie Primary School has been cleverly redesigned to fit the local environment and meet the needs of local students, teachers and its community.

“Wherever they live in WA, we want to make sure families have access to a great public school, and Lesmurdie Primary School with its impressive new facilities is certainly one of those.”

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“Having access to great facilities plays a significant role in delivering great learning.

“I have no doubt these new learning spaces will enable young Lesmurdie students to thrive in their schooling for years to come and allow teachers and staff to deliver first class education.

“Our record education infrastructure program is designed to ensure WA schools are of the highest quality.”

As stated by Kalamunda MLA Matthew Hughes:

“It was wonderful to be at Lesmurdie Primary School today to open these new facilities.

“The redevelopment is an exciting time for the engaged and active Lesmurdie Primary School community, and I am proud to have been able to deliver this for my local community.”
