Major Upgrade Complete For Point Cook Park

A major, $400,000 upgrade of Friar Place Park in Point Cook has been completed, providing a welcoming and pleasant space for residents to enjoy.

The park has a new playground, half-court basketball court, additional trees, seating, a nature-play area and a new circuit path.

The Wyndham City project was jointly funded by Council and the Victorian Government, with the latter contributing $200,000 through the Growing Suburbs Fund.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Josh Gilligan said Council was delivering on its significant capital works program to enhance the quality of life for Point Cook’s 65,000 residents.

“This financial year alone Council is upgrading eight parks, improving nine roads, enhancing a skate park and delivering a new outdoor youth space in Point Cook, with further investment in the pipeline,” Cr Gilligan said.

“These major infrastructure projects will substantially boost Point Cook’s liveability, ensuring Wyndham is a liveable city – not just a big city.”

Family Friendly City portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said the upgraded park would be a terrific place for residents to unwind after work, exercise and play with their children.

“The upgrades have resulted in the park being a more vibrant place for community members to spend time in,” Cr Shaw said.

“There are nature-play areas for children to explore, a new circuit path for people to get up their steps and additional trees to provide shade for picnic-goers.”

“It is somewhere Point Cook residents of all ages – from toddlers to seniors – will enjoy spending time in, without having to get in the car.”
