The upgrades will extend the life of the facility by more than 15 years and include the replacement of surfaces at SIEC’s Main Arena and Arena Two to improve rider and horse safety, enhance usability and increase the venue’s ability to attract major international events.
The project included upgrades to sub-grade footings, enhancements to irrigation and drainage system and the installation of improved top-surface materials, enabling the arenas to support a wider variety of equestrian disciplines.
New fencing and upgrades to the holding yard and pathways between the two arenas was also completed as part of the project.
The upgrades were completed by construction contractor Barbro Constructions (NSW) Pty Ltd in conjunction with leading equestrian surface providers, MC Equine Surfaces to ensure the arenas met the highest standards for multiple equestrian disciplines.
The first events to benefit from the upgrades include this weekend’s Waratah Showjumping Warm-up Weekend and the 2026 Waratah Showjumping World Cup, a Fédération Equestre Internationale World Cup Jumping League qualifier from 20-23 August.

“These upgrades will ensure SIEC continues to serve the equestrian community and host major events for many years to come.”

“These improvements will significantly enhance the experience of riders who travel from across the world to compete in events at SIEC like next week’s 2026 Waratah Showjumping World Cup.”
