Man arrested and police appeal for witnesses after Lalor crash

Police have arrested a man following reports of an incident in Lalor on Sunday 17 October.

A number of calls to Triple Zero (000) were received reporting an erratic driver travelling north on Dalton Road in a red Holden Captiva about 2.15pm.

Officers who were performing static patrols nearby were stopped by a member of the public who also alerted them to the driver.

The Captiva was located by police nearby after it had crashed into a pole on Dalton Road near the intersection of Ruth Street.

A 42-year-old Epping man was subsequently arrested after he refused a breath test and assaulted police by allegedly spitting at officers.

He was taken to hospital under police guard and is expected to be charged with drink driving, assault police and drive under the influence.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the man driving the Captiva along Dalton Road prior to the crash, and in particular, the member of the public who stopped and spoke to them.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
