Man arrested on outstanding warrant after allegedly fleeing police – Murray River

Police have arrested a man wanted on an outstanding warrant for alleged break and enter offences in the state’s south today.

About 2.40pm yesterday (Monday 10 April 2023), officers attached to Murray River Police District received information a wanted man was near the Edward River within the Murray Valley National Park, Mathoura.

When police attended the location, the man jumped into the river and swam across.

Following further inquiries, police attended a home on Moama Street, Mathoura, about 9.50am today (Tuesday 11 April 2023) when they located a man hiding inside a roof cavity.

The 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with one count of aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company intend steal.

The outstanding warrant was also executed.

The Mathoura man was refused bail and appeared in Deniliquin Local Court today (Tuesday 11 April 2023), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 13 April 2023.
