Man arrested trying to change tyre on stolen car, South Australia

A man was arrested after being found in a stolen car at Penfield overnight.

Police were called to Womma Road, Penfield, near Heaslip Road by a report that a car had hit a kerb about 2am on Tuesday 14 January.

Patrols attended and located the Toyota Camry sedan with a shredded tyre, the bonnet up and a young man trying to change the tyre.

The Toyota had been stolen during a break-in at a Gawler office about 6.30pm last night. A window had been smashed to gain entry and car keys stolen. A cleaner had been confronted during the break-in, but not injured.

The driver, an 18-year-old Evanston Gardens man, was arrested and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft and illegal use. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.

The car was seized and towed from the scene for forensic examination.
