Man assaulted, robbed – New Lambton

Police are appealing for assistance after a man was assaulted and robbed during an attempted carjacking in Newcastle.

Just after midday (Sunday 27 August 2023), a driver had stopped his white Toyota Corolla hatch at lights on Lookout Road at New Lambton, when he was approached by an unknown man.

Police have been told the man – who was armed with a knife – got into the front passenger seat and punched the 21-year-old man before taking a sum of cash and a Rolex watch from him.

Another man entered the rear passenger seat armed with a firearm.

The driver managed to accelerate, causing the man in the front passenger seat to fall onto the roadway.

The other man fled.

After returning home, the man called officers from Newcastle Police District who commenced an investigation.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his 30s, with blond hair and wearing a black Covid face mask.

The second man is Caucasian appearance, with light brown hair and was also wearing a black face mask.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage in the area at the time, is urged to contact police.
