Man charge after foot pursuit in Darlinghurst

A man has been charged following a foot pursuit in Darlinghurst yesterday.

Just before 1.30pm (Monday 22 June 2020), officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command were conducting proactive patrols when they noticed a man and a woman walking on Oxford Street.

As officers approached, the pair split up and the 32-year-old man – who was carrying a bag – fled on foot.

Police commenced a foot pursuit which continued through several streets, including a house in Darlinghurst.

Shortly after, the man was located in a common garden area at the back of units on Rose Terrace, near South Dowling Street.

As police attempted to arrest him, a taser was deployed.

Police also located a bag, containing allegedly stolen items, on Oxford Street

He was arrested and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for observation before being released and taken to Surry Hills Police Station.

He was charged with goods in custody, intimidate police, assault police and trespass. He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today (Tuesday 23 June 2020).
