Man charged after 300 weapons seized by police

A man has been charged by NSW Police Force after 300 prohibited weapons were seized following a referral from Australian Border Force (ABF).

In November, detectives from the Eastern Beaches Drug Disruption Team commenced an investigation into the importation of prohibited weapons under Strike Force Twickenham.

Between 18 November 2019 and 19 November 2019, ABF officers intercepted seven mail packages addressed to the same individual, being imported into Australia.

They were X-rayed by ABF officers, who noted anomalies in the X-ray image. Upon further inspection, the packages were found to contain a number of prohibited weapons, including knuckle dusters, butterfly knives and concealed knives.

The detections were referred to NSW Police, who began an investigation under Strike Force Twickenham.

Following inquiries, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Alma Road, Maroubra, on Tuesday 26 November 2019.

During the warrant, police located more than 250 weapons. These included extendable batons, tyre spikes, an electronic control device, a slingshot, a ballistic vest, two compound bows and arrows, and more than 200 knives of different varieties.
