Man charged after alleged child abuse material is shared online – Strike Force Packer

A man has been charged with alleged child sex offences following an investigation by State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad.

In March 2023, detectives attached to the Child Exploitation Internet Unit (CEIU) commenced an investigation into the alleged dissemination of child abuse material on live video conferences under Strike Force Packer.

Following extensive inquiries, about 7.30am today (Thursday 5 October 2023), strike force detectives – with assistance from Marine Area Command – executed a search warrant in Milsons Passage on the Hawkesbury River.

During the search, officers located and seized electronics and items relevant to their investigation.

A 51-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Hornsby Police Station where he was charged with use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child abuse, possess child abuse material, and two counts of use carriage service to access child abuse material.

The man was refused bail to appear before Hornsby Local Court today.

Police will allege in court the man participated in a video teleconference distributing child abuse material.
