Man charged after allegedly assaulting police in South Yarra

A man has been charged after it is alleged, he assaulted police in an unprovoked attack, in South Yarra on Sunday, 2 March.

The officers were stationary on Chapel Street dealing with an unrelated incident when a male passenger hanging out of a taxi began yelling aggressively at the officers about 12.30am.

Police approached the male to check on his welfare when without warning he charged at the officers.

It’s alleged that during the arrest the man spat on one of the officers and bit another officer.

A 36-year-old Kilsyth man was charged with assault emergency worker and resist police.

He was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 21 May.
