Man charged after allegedly threatening bank employee – Bega

A man has been charged after a bank employee was allegedly threatened in the states south.

About 3.10pm yesterday (Friday 9 October 2026), officers from the South Coast Police District attended a bank on Carp Street, Bega, following reports of a man armed with a knife.

When officers entered the bank, the man allegedly held a knife to the throat of a 58-year-old female staff member and a number of threats were made.

After a brief verbal interaction between the man and police, officers deployed a Taser to affect the man’s arrest.

The 38-year-old man was taken to Bega Police Station.

He was charged with aggravated robbery and deprives person of liberty and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 3 today (Saturday 10 October 2026).
