Man charged after four firearms and hydro cannabis crop allegedly seized – Central West

A man will face court today after four firearms and a hydro cannabis crop were allegedly seized from a home in the state’s Central West.

About 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 16 September 2026), officers attached to Parkes Rural Crime Prevention Team executed a firearm and weapon prohibition compliance check at a property on Cooka Hills Road, Cookamidgera, about 17km south of Parkes.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized four firearms – including a single barrel shotgun and a gel blaster rifle – ammunition, a hydroponic setup, and one cannabis plant.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at Parkes Police Station where he was charged with possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority, firearm found at premises-subject to prohibition order and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority.

He was remanded in custody to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today (Thursday 17 September 2026).
