Man charged over alleged historical sexual assault offences – Mid North Coast

A man will face court today charged over alleged historical sexual assault offences on the Mid North Coast.

In January 2024, detectives attached to Mid North Coast Police District commenced an investigation following reports of an alleged sexual assault occurring in 1994 and 1996.

Police will allege in court that in 1994, a girl aged 13, was sexually assaulted by a man – who was known to her – at an address in Port Macquarie.

Police will also allege that the same girl was again assaulted by the man in 1996, when she was 15 years old.

Following extensive inquiries by police, about 7am today (Tuesday 12 November 2024), detectives attended a premises on Turf Street, Grafton, where they arrested a 56-year-old man.

He was taken to Grafton Police Station where he was charged with sexual intercourse with person 10 or over and under 16 years, and sexual intercourse with person 14 or over and under 16 years.

He was refused bail to appear before Grafton Local Court today (Tuesday 12 November 2024).
