PLEASE NOTE: NSWPF-branded footage will be available later today

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a man over the shooting death of a man in Sydney’s inner west last year.

About 6.30pm on Monday 27 June 2022, emergency services responded to reports that a man had been shot on Walker Street, Rhodes.

Upon arrival, police located a man with multiple gunshot wounds; he was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

He has since been formally identified as 40-year-old Yusuf Nazlioglu.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – assisted by Burwood Police Area Command – commenced Strike Force Claypinch to investigate the incident.

This investigation subsequently formed part of ongoing inquiries by Taskforce Erebus into several fatal shootings and criminal activities by organised crime networks across Sydney.

Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at Blair Athol about 6am today (Wednesday 19 April 2023).

Two further search warrants were executed at homes in Mt Pritchard and Kemps Creek.

During all the warrants, detectives seized cannabis, cash, electronic devices, and other items relevant to the ongoing investigation. All items seized will undergo further forensic examination.

A 25-year-old man was arrested at the Blair Athol home and taken to Campbelltown Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court later today.

Police will allege in court the man was involved in the planning and coordination of the murder.

Investigations under Taskforce Erebus and Strike Force Claypinch are ongoing.
