Man charged over shooting death of Taha Sabbagh – Sefton

A man has been charged by Homicide Squad detectives over the alleged shooting murder of a man in Sydney’s south-west last month.

Just after 6.30am on Thursday 2 March 2023, emergency services were called to Carlingford Street, Sefton, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers located a 40-year-old man suffering a gunshot wound. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died at the scene.

He has since been formally identified as Taha Sabbagh.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad – assisted by Bankstown Police Area Command and South-West Metropolitan Region – commenced Strike Force Pemak to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 26-year-old man at the Sydney International Airport about 3.30pm today (Sunday 23 April 2023).

He was taken to Surry Hills Police Station, where he was charged with murder. He’s been refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Monday 24 April 2023).

Police will allege in court the Fairfield East man was involved in the planning and coordination of the murder of Mr Sabbagh.

Investigations under Strike Force Pemak are continuing.
