A man will face court today after he allegedly assaulted police officers and resisted arrest in Gunnedah yesterday.
About 9.30am (Wednesday 4 December 2024), officers attached to Oxley Police District attended Tambar Springs, following reports an allegedly stolen vehicle had been sighted.
Upon arrival, police were told the man was inside a store allegedly armed with a screwdriver while trying to get behind a counter.
After numerous requests, the man put down the screwdriver; however, he allegedly failed to comply with further police directions before police discharged a Taser.
The man then allegedly hit an officer in the face, causing a cut to his forehead.
OC spray was deployed, and the man was arrested.
The man then allegedly kicked an officer in the shoulder while being placed into a caged police vehicle.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the man and the two police officers for cuts and bruises at the scene.
The 31-year-old man was taken to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged with:
- Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner,
- Armed with intent commit indictable offence,
- Two counts of assault police officer in execution of duty without actual bodily harm, and
- Hinder or resist police officer in execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear before Gunnedah Local Court today (Thursday 5 December 2024).
