Man charged with firearms offences following search warrant – Mid North Coast

A man has been charged with multiple firearms offences following a search warrant at a Mid North Coast property yesterday.

In late 2023, police commenced an investigation after receiving information about the illegal possession of firearms on the Mid North Coast.

About 3.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 10 January 2024), officers from the Mid North Coast PD, assisted by PolAir and the Dog Unit, executed a search warrant at a property on Ballengara Road, Dondingalong.

At the scene, a 42-year-old man was placed under arrest and Firearm and Weapons Prohibition Orders were served on him.

A subsequent search of the property allegedly revealed four firearms, ammunition, explosive tubes, detonator cord and knives.

The man was taken to Kempsey Police Station where he was charged with 16 offences:

  • Three counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Three counts of possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority
  • Three counts of possess unregistered firearm-prohibited firearm
  • Two counts of possess shortened firearm without authority
  • Two counts of acquire prohibited firearm part no authority to do so
  • Possess more than three unregistered firearms without license/permit
  • Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority
  • Handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence

He was refused bail to appear before Kempsey Local Court today (Thursday 11 January 2024).
