Man charged with manslaughter after death of elderly man – Alexandria

A man has been charged with manslaughter after the death of an elderly man who was allegedly tackled in Sydney’s inner south earlier this week.

On Wednesday (7 October 2026), police were notified that a man had been critically injured during an incident the previous day in Alexandria.

Officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command were told that the man – aged 75 – had been hitting a parked van on Huntley Street, when another man allegedly restrained and tackled him, about 1.50pm on Tuesday (6 October 2026).

The 75-year-old was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a critical condition.

After being notified South Sydney detectives commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Manilo.

Following inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 51-year-old man on George Street, Waterloo, about 4pm yesterday (Thursday 8 October 2026).

After the arrest police were notified the 75-year-old man had died in hospital.

The 51-year-old was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter.

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Local Court 7 today (Friday 9 October 2026).
