A man has died following a fire at a unit complex on the state’s south coast.
About 7.40pm today (Saturday 19 September 2026), emergency services were called to a unit complex on Greenacre Road, Wollongong, following reports of a fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished worked to extinguish the fire and neighbouring residents were evacuated before a body – believed to the that of a 52-year-old man – was located inside the unit.
He is yet to be formally identified.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.
One person was treated for smoke inhalation by NSW Ambulance paramedics and did not require further treatment.
There were no other reports of injuries.
